High fertilizer prices and low commodity prices may have some looking for where to cut costs in 2026. Assessment of the sufficiency of potassium in soils for corn and soybean production has been more problematic due to inconsistencies in the commonly used soil test K methodology in Minnesota. This presentation will go over current research on potassium in corn and soybean production and focus on how different soils across the state may vary in their ability to supply potassium and how that may impact growers decisions for 2026. Research on timing of application and potential negative impacts of potassium on corn and soybean will also be addressed.
