Kevin Bradley

About Kevin:

Kevin Bradley, Professor, Extension Education Director, and State Extension Weed Scientist, University of Missouri. Dr. Bradley’s primary area of research emphasis has been to develop strategies for the management and mitigation of herbicide-resistant weed populations, specifically waterhemp.  His group was the first to identify and characterize glyphosate resistance in waterhemp in the U.S. and since that time, he has conducted numerous surveys to identify the distribution of herbicide resistances in waterhemp, conducted work to identify the molecular mechanism(s) responsible for resistance in this species, and devoted the majority of  his research focus and extension teaching efforts on the evaluation and implementation of future-focused integrated weed management techniques for the control of herbicide-resistant waterhemp in a variety of cropping systems.

About Kevin's Presentation:

Lesson's learned from a lifetime of dealing with herbicide-resistant waterhemp
Wednesday, December 3
1-1:50 p.m. and 2-2:50 p.m.
Marquette II,III,VI, IX

Throughout my entire career, I have watched waterhemp and Palmer amaranth develop resistance to each and every “next best solution” herbicide that has come onto the market, and the result is that we now have very few viable herbicide options left for the control of these species. No doubt the future of pigweed management will still involve herbicides, but it’s clear we need a new approach. In this presentation, I will describe some of the biological characteristics of the pigweed species that make them so difficult and provide insights into what future management programs might look like.
