The EPA’s Endangered Species Strategies and resulting label changes represent a new approach to pesticide regulation. These strategies introduce greater flexibility and provide applicators with multiple options to comply with updated label requirements. This presentation outlines the implications of these changes for pesticide applicators, emphasizing new label language and the online resources necessary for compliance. Notable changes include the expanded use of Pesticide Use Limitation Areas (PULAs) via the Bulletins Live! Two platform and the introduction of mandatory spray drift and erosion/runoff mitigation measures through the EPA’s new Mitigation Menu website. Applicators must now consult multiple resources, as labels increasingly direct users to online tools for site-specific mitigation planning.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture provides practical examples of how applicators can meet mitigation requirements by leveraging existing conservation practices, such as those implemented through the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program. This presentation underscores the importance of proactive planning, thorough documentation, and strong collaboration between applicators and landowners to successfully navigate this evolving regulatory landscape.
